Lower Condition

Joel de las Heras exhibits a creative
installation in which it is questioned,
the acceptance of people who are
labelled as different by the society just
because they have more communicative and
learning difficulties than anyone else,
considered normal by the society.
Lower condition shows us a series of
images portraying people who suffer not
only Down’s syndrome but also some
mental deficiencies, either
minor or moderate.
These images create their own reality,
in contrastwith a completely different
one which is superficial,
distant and cold; our reality.
The aim of this exhibition is to encourage
the public to think about so subjective
values such as the acceptance of a person
by the society, the features which
portray beauty, that have changed so
much throughout history, and what is
most important, the basis that determine
if someone is valid or not.
In order to give validity to those who
do not have it, Lower condition shows us
some changeable stereotypes through
a photographic, creative material that has
been performed by some of those who
are underestimated and socially excluded.
This experiment proves the high
sensibility rate they have.
